The cost of building a new library in the midlands is spiralling out of control, according to Sinn Féin.
Laois councillor Caroline Dwane Stanley says price estimates for Portlaoise library continue to rise with no guarantee when the development will be finished or what the total expense of the project will amount to.
From an initial projected cost of €2.5 million in 2012, the price tag increased to €3.4 million in 2018 and will now take an estimated €6.5 million to complete.
