Dozens of leading charities and campaigners will gather outside the Department of Health today in a pre-budget appeal for extra funds for home care.
The Home Care Coalition wants increased investment of €267 million euro - in response to what they warn is a deepening crisis.
They are calling for extra support-hours, and additional recruitment and retention of home care workers, to help support a growing population of older people, and people with disabilities.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Catherine Cox from Family Carers Ireland in Tullamore, says investing money now, represents a saving in the long term:
