The Open Youth Orchestra of Ireland is being launched today.
Ireland's first orchestra to be led by musicians with a disability is being launched today.
The Open Youth Orchestra of Ireland will have 20 performers with varying abilities from all over the country.
It's being set-up by the Royal Irish Academy of Ireland, and will hold its first concert in Athlone this coming Sunday.
RIAM Director, Deborah Kelleher, says it's about making sure everyone has access to music and the arts:
The inaugural performance will take place at Athlone Institute of Technology this Sunday 29th at 3pm and is open to all members of the public.
Any musicians who may wish to join an ensemble in their own area, or people who would like to support its development to register by contacting OYOI@riam.ie.
