Laois TD Raises Privacy Concerns Over Expanded Use Of Public Services Card As ID

Willie Aird is raising concerns over the system being overextended, creating privacy risks.

A Laois TD is questioning whether the Data Protection Commission is doing enough to ensure the Public Services Card can be safely used as proof of identity.

It's currently being proposed in a new Social Welfare Bill being drafted, meaning it could be used like a passport or driver's license to identify someone's age.

Fine Gael rep Willie Aird is voicing concerns that the technology may become too broad and lead to privacy concerns.
