A midlands Junior Minister could be "Taoiseach material" in the long-term, according to a former TD.

Longford Westmeath Fine Gael Deputy Peter Burke is being hinted at a seat in Cabinet under new party leader Simon Harris.

His move to a senior ministerial role seems even more likely after Simon Coveney stepped down as Enterprise Minister.
