However, there's still far more men on the County Councils.
There's been an increase in the number of women on local authorities in the midlands, but there's still a massive discrepancy in terms of gender.
12 women were elected to County Councils in Laois, Offaly and Westmeath in the 2024 Local Elections, which is up one from 11, when compared to the end of the last term.
Offaly saw its number of female representation double, rising from two to four.
However, there's a number of Municipal Districts without any women on the Council - they are Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick, Athlone and Moate.
The number of men on the midlands local authorities largely outweighs the number of women, with 80 percent of the seats filled by men.
