It will apply from tomorrow.
Laois County Council is temporarily suspending parking charges.
Motorists will be available to avail of free parking in areas operated by the local authority in Portlaoise, Portarlington and Mountmellick.
The decision was taken to support social distancing, reduce cash/coin transactions, and is due to the reduced demand for medium/long term car parks and is geared to assist in the local and collective response to the Covid 19 pandemic.
The changes will be in place from tomorrow until Friday 17th April, 2020.
The temporary suspension of the parking bye-laws relates to paid parking only and does not include other parking offences such as unauthorised parking, on footpaths, in loading bays or in disabled parking bays, parking on double yellow lines etc. Enforcement of such offences will continue, as required, further to the provisions of Road Traffic Regulations.
