The wait for diabetes services to be reinstated at Portlaoise Regional Hospital needs to end, according to Sinn Féin.
Laois-Offaly TD Brian Stanley says over 400 people with Type 1 diabetes are forced to travel elsewhere and pay for private treatment because of the ongoing absence of a senior dietician to run the local service.
He says the hospital has applied for funding to fill the role three times in the last year but this has yet to be approved by the HSE or Department of Health.
Deputy Stanley says the delay is unacceptable:
