The Laois TD says large time gaps between HIQA inspections were brought up at a meeting with the body.
An updated and more frequent inspection system is needed for nursing homes in Laois run by Emeis Ireland
That's the view of Independent TD Brian Stanley who has met the chief inspector of HIQA in a meeting alongside other public representatives.
The health inspection body says they carry out inspections at least once a year, but recorded large time gaps between inspections at The Residence Portlaoise and Kilminchy Nursing Home.
A five month gap was recorded at The Residence Portlaoise over the past year despite known issues, while there was an almost 15 month delay between inspections at Kilminchy.
