MRHM Given Approval To Fill Vacant Paedatric Diabetes Services Staff Position

The future of the clinic had been in doubt over pressures with resources and staffing.

Mullingar Regional Hospital has been given the green light to appoint a Staff Nurse to help alleviate pressures on the Paediatric Diabetes Services.

It follows nearly a week of uncertainty over whether the clinic would be able to stay open.

Hospital management met with the Paediatric Clinical Lead on Friday to discuss the pressures facing the clinic, such as staffing and resources.

It was agreed the Paediatric Day Ward will continue to open as normal, which will transfer activity away from the inpatient ward to more appropriate environments.

That will allow the Staff Nurse to move from the inpatient ward and continue her training in Paediatric Diabetes and support the team.

The hospital has also been granted approval to fill a vacant Staff Nurse position with a previously successful candidate.

The Dublin Midlands Hospital Group, of which Mullingar is a part, has also launched another round of recruitment campaigns for Paediatric Nurses.

The HSE have been 'short sighted' to the long term consequences of poorly controlled diabetes, according to the parent of a midlands child with the condition.
