An Offaly TD is calling for immediate action on private health insurance rules that force older policyholders to pay for benefits they do not need or use.
This comes after an 80-year-old constituent was told by VHI she was not entitled to a refund or adjustment for irrelevant maternity and addiction related mental health benefits in her plan.
Deputy Carol Nolan says she has contacted VHI to seek clarification on whether policy terms allow for partial refunds or adjustments when mandatory benefits are clearly not relevant to a policyholder’s needs.
She says a review of the policy is needed:
