The most common reason for referrals to Tusla last year was emotional abuse.
The agency received a record breaking more than 100,000 child welfare referrals in 2025.- with over 10,300 made in the Midlands alone.
The record number of referrals relates to more than 55,000 individual children, with 5,110 of those made across Laois, Offaly, Westmeath and Longford.
The annual report for the year shows physical abuse accounted for over a quarter of contacts made, while neglect and sexual abuse also featured highly.
