Over 100 residents could be accommodated in the new facility.
A decision to refuse planning permission for a Westmeath care home has been overturned.
The proposals would see a 108-bed residential care home and retirement village developed on the Mullingar Road in Kinnegad.
The more-than 6,000sqm facility would include 30 assisted living units, 15 independent living rooms and a community hall.
Westmeath County Council previously refused the plans, citing a failure to provide an optimum design which would allow the project to 'integrate successfully with the adjoining built form.'
However, in an appeal to An Bord Pleanála, its inspector recommended overturning the local authority's decision, and grant permission for the proposed development.
They say the project would be in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.
They also suggested attaching 20 conditions to the approval of the project.
