That's the view of the chairman of Portlaoise Hospital Action Committee.
The Department Of Health need to say that 24 hour A&E services will remain in Portlaoise to end the debate about its future.
That's according to the chairman of the hospital's action committee, John Hanniffy.
It follows calls from Sinn Fein for the security of emergency facilities in Portlaoise to be written into any programme for government.
Mr. Haniffy says it's a very simple gesture that will bring closure:
