John Irwin is currently General Secretary of the Irish Association of Community and Comprehensive Schools.
Teachers have warned any plan to re-open schools needs to be sustainable to deal with the threat of COVID.
The government will publish a plan this afternoon for schools to fully return at the end of next month.
Children will be separated into pods in primary schools, there will be more substitute teachers and more money for cleaning.
There will also be funds for adapting schools including the likely use of prefabs.
