Laois Man Urges People To Check Their Blood Pressure

Clonaslee's Nicholas Hines underwent a successful heart transplant operation in 2024.

A Laois man is urging people to check their blood pressure, as it could indicate an underlying health condition.

47-year-old Nicholas Hines settled in Clonaslee from the US 25 years ago, and suffered a stroke in February 2020.

His recovery led to a diagnosis of underlying dilated cardiomyopathy and sarcoidosis, and to a successful heart transplant operation in 2024.

Both conditions came as a surprise to him, Mr Hines says early intervention makes a difference:
