The Athlone man and his sister passed away on this day last year.
A midlands man, who died along side his sister in a drowning accident last summer, is being remembered through a fundraiser ahead of his one year anniversary this weekend.
Athlone's Dessie Byrne and Muriel Eriksson died off the men's beach in Ballybunion in Kerry in August 4th last year.
The 50-year-old was a member of Lecarrow Lazers cycling club and his fellow members are raising money for the Dessie Byrne Memorial Fund - which will support the Lanesboro Sub Aqua group and Ballybunion Search and Rescue.
Chairman of the club, Noel Galvin, says they are opening up St John's Community Centre, in Lecarrow, as a pit-stop for cyclists out for their Sunday ride:
