The local authorities can decide today who, if, any hopefuls they will back in the presidential election.
Today is being dubbed as 'Independents Day.'
Nine local councils will hear from independent candidates in the presidential election campaign of the course of this morning and afternoon.
It will be a tight running ship today at Laois County Council, as they host pitches from Independent presidential hopefuls.
The Westmeath local authority is also set to decide on who to back today, with Offaly set to hold their meeting on Monday.
Roscommon, Longford, Kildare, Galway City, Cork City and Dublin City authorities are all fielding pitches from a number of candidates before they decide whether or not to back any of them.
Kerry County Council has voted to nominate Gareth Sheridan as a presidential election candidate after addressing them last week.
18 members of the council voted to nominate a candidate, while 14 voted against.
While Conor McGregor has withdrawn from the presidential election campaign.
Pat Leahy, Political Editor of The Irish Times, says other independent candidates will still be presenting throughout the day:
Those looking to secure a nomination in Laois will have five minutes to make their presentation, before opening to the floor for questions from local councillors.
Laois Cathaoirleach Barry Walsh says it should be straightforward:
Roscommon County Council won't be nominating a presidential candidate.
The news comes after a special meeting of the county's public reps tabled no proposal to support a candidate.
