The President of the Irish Farmers Association says farmers deserve the opportunity to take time away from the farm.
Farmers could be set to benefit from subsidised holidays and financial support to cover sick leave, under proposals being considered as part of the new Common Agricultural Policy.
Figures reported by the Irish Independent highlight the challenges facing farmers, with dairy farmers taking just 19 days off per year and 63% of beef farmers forced to seek other work due to income challenges.
