Offaly Hospice Committee Reaches Settlement With HSE Over Funding Dispute

The committee says it is owed €312k for hospice plans at Tullamore Hospital.

A financial dispute over money owed to the Offaly Hospice Committee from the HSE has been settled.

Its members claim the committee is owed €312,000 that was spent developing a proposal to construct a hospice for Offaly on the grounds of Tullamore Hospital, before a new site for the Midlands Hospice on the Arden Lane in the town was selected.

Management from the health body have told a meeting of the Regional Health Forum an undisclosed sum is set to be paid back to the committee.

Edenderry Councillor for Fianna Fail and Health Forum member Claire Murray Smale is welcoming the agreement:

The HSE Dublin and Midlands Health Region says it has had a constructive meeting on 23rd April between representatives from the Offaly Hospice and the Region.

Following detailed engagement, a provisional contribution amount was agreed and accepted by both parties. This represents positive progress.

It says as the figure is provisional and details still need to be clarified, it would not be appropriate to share exact figures and agreement details in the public domain.

The issue was raised at this week's meeting of the HSE Dublin Midlands Health Forum.
