An Offaly man has resigned from his position as an assistant manager at a four star midlands hotel after headbutting a colleague, leaving them with a broken nose.
39 year old Enda Molloy of Beechmount Avenue, Clara, in Offaly pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to the Hodson Bay Hotel's assistant manager Diarmuid McLoughlin at a sitting of Athlone District Court yesterday.
The Irish Independent reports that the court heard that after a 'difference of opinion' in a meeting, Mr McLoughlin approached Mr Molloy and another colleague to tell them to stop talking about him.
After approaching the defendant a third time, Mr. McLoughlin, who has since made a full recovery, found himself on the receiving end of a headbutt.
Mr Molloy's defence argued in mitigation his client has apologised, and had a previously good track record with the hotel, and is currently working full time, and supporting his nine year old son who lives in the UK.
Judge Bernadette Owens ordered a probation report and for it to include a restorative justice element and remanded Mr Molloy on continuing bail to a sitting of Athlone District Court on September 10.
