It's expected the first phase of tunnelling works in the multi-million upgrade of a midlands wastewater system will be finished in January.
Uisce Éireann says the works in the Deerpark and Showgrounds areas of Athlone, which began in September, are nearing completion.
The next step in the €114m upgrade is the start of tunnelling works in Burgess Park, The Strand, and the Upper Shannon Crossing, which will begin in the New Year.
It's part of an effort to reduce the risk of sewer flooding in Athlone.
