Verdict On Lissywollen Asylum Seeker Centre Due Tomorrow

Local councillors are challenging for the 1,000 person capacity site to be removed.

The Westmeath Councillors campaigning against a 1,000 person capacity asylum seeker centre will find out if their case is successful tomorrow.

Four Councillors from the Athlone/Moate Municipal District are behind the challenge: Frankie Keena, John Dolan,  Aengus O’ Rourke and Paul Hogan.

The High Court yesterday heard that just 137 residents now live in temporary tented accommodation on the site.

Details of the judicial review of the case, and the State's motion for a stay on the development for a period of six months were also covered.

The Councillors legal team are opposing the application for a stay on the grounds that its "not appropriate" to keep people in tented accommodation for another winter.

Ms. Justice Emily Farrell will deliver her judgement tomorrow morning.
