The developers behind a major Westmeath housing project are seeking a five year extension in order to complete its works.
Castlestar Limited applied to An Bord Pleanala in July 2020 to build 426 residential units in the Cornamagh, Clonbrusk & Coosan areas of Athlone.
The original application was approved that October and includes 237 houses, 189 apartments and a creche.
Supply chain issues during the pandemic and delays in Uisce Eireann connections due to capacity problems are being blamed for the project's delay.
Works will now be complete in February 2031 if approved, with a decision due from Westmeath County Council by August 11th.
