A new survey has been carried out in the town.
98% of people in Carlow believe changes need to be made to improve the town.
A new survey shows locals want the town centre to include cafe-style spaces outside restaurants and bars, pedestrianised streets and vibrant public meeting areas.
76% of 3,000 people surveyed in the Your Carlow survey, say they don't think Carlow Town Centre was attractive.
Your Carlow is the first element of Project Carlow 2040 which gives a strategic framework for the future of the town.
The top changes identified to improve the town centre are spaces for people to socialise, sustainable planting and street lighting.
Carlow Town currently has over 3,600 available public and private car parking spaces, with many unused on a daily basis.
65% of people agree with prioritising pedestrian and amenity space over on-street car parking and more than three quarters who took the survey thought it was a good idea to extend the one-way system on part of Tullow Street and introduce it on part of Potato Market to widen the footpaths.
94% agree public spaces should cater to the needs of different groups such as older people, young people and people with disabilities.
The town is set to receive a €20m rejuvenation.
Detailed designs and plans around the Your Carlow proposals are now on public display until March 14 and can be viewed in County Hall, Carlow Library and online at consult.carlow.ie.
