Five counties, including Laois account for more than 60% of missing cattle reports since 2023.
Laois is seeing some of the highest numbers of stolen cattle in Ireland, according to the Irish Independent.
Figures from the Department of Agriculture show that for every stolen animal, roughly 11 are reported missing, with beef cattle making up over 70% of these cases.
Five counties including Laois make up over 60% of missing cattle reports since 2023, while Offaly is being highlighted as a county with little to no instances of missing cattle.
Nationally, missing cattle surged in 2023, with older beef animals most commonly affected.
The Department of of Agriculture wants farmers to report incidents immediately to regional veterinary offices and An Garda Síochána to ensure proper investigation and tracking.
