It costs, on average, €940 to rent in the midlands, according to the RTB's Rent Index for the second quarter of this year.
The steepest rates are in Laois, with a standardised average of €1,015 - rising from €917 during the same time last year.
Westmeath recorded a 9.6% increase, from €841 to €922.
And Offaly remains the most affordable in the midlands at €884.
That's despite the highest percentage rise in the midlands and the fourth highest in Ireland at 12.1% - recording an increase of €96 in the space of year.
The national average is €1,352, rising by 7% in 12 months.
