The local authority in the county want to cut down on bulky waste.
Laois County Council is making an effort to cut down on bulky waste with a new contract for the recycling of mattresses.
The local authority have signed a three-year deal with Bounce Back Recycling to recycle mattresses from the Laois civic amenity site.
Currently, more than 10,000 mattresses are disposed of in the county annually, representing a loss of around €1.9m to the local economy.
BBR has diverted over 120,000 bulky items from landfill across 13 counties in the last seven years.
BBR Manager, Keith McDonagh says "Businesses like furniture retailers and hotels need to regularly dispose of bulky goods like mattresses. We can help them divert these goods away from landfill, recycle them, and bring the materials back into the circular economy"
