A Portlaoise councillor says it's down to budget overruns.
Questions are being raised on why there's a delay in re-letting council houses in Laois.
Sinn Féin councillor Caroline Dwane-Stanley says the process has ground to a halt due to budgetary overruns in Laois County Council.
She says she understands there's a cost involved in bringing a property back up to standard or carrying out repairs, but that leaving units lying empty only results in vandalism, which, in turn, costs the Council.
Councillor Dwane-Stanley says the local authority should rectify the issue and continue its good record of re-letting houses quickly:
