Offaly driving instructor Michael Davis expects it will take some months before the numbers go up.
The Road Safety Authority may struggle to increase the number of testers in their ranks before October.
That's according to the former chair of the Approved Driving Instructors RSA Forum.
The national testing body is being asked by the Government to reduce test waiting times to 10 weeks.
The RSA is now aiming expanding test hours to Saturdays and bank holidays, opening new driving test centres and faster training for new testers.
