Simon Harris is in Athlone today to open the new €1.4 million Custume Barracks hangar.
It follows reports of disagreement between medical and military officials over the suitability of the facililty.
4,000 patients across the country from 6,000 calls, have benefitted from the emergency response helicopter since it's arrival in the midlands in 2012.
