The greenway will travel between Kilbeggan and Mullingar.
Two possible routes have been identified to develop a new greenway in Westmeath.
Westmeath County Council is asking people to give their preferences on the Kilbeggan to Mullingar Greenway.
The project is moving onto the next stage, after a Phase One consultation determined the areas of interest and the constraints with developing a greenway.
Now, Westmeath County Council has launched a Phase Two consultation, which is asking people to select their preferred feasible route corridor option.
Both start in Kilbeggan Harbour and end in Mullingar, but one route connects the two via the west of Lough Ennell, while the second would see people travel via the east of the lake.
The local authority says both options have been developed to connect likely tourism and leisure attractions and use publicly owned land where possible.
The consultation period opened this morning at 9am, and will close at the end of the month.
Anyone who wishes to make a submission can do so online here, by emailing info@kilbeggantomullingargreenway.ie, or by posting to RPS, IDA Business & Technology Park, Mervue, Galway, H91 H9CK.
There will also be a public event in the Bloomfield House Hotel in Mullingar this Thursday from 3pm to 8pm.
