Men buy more jewellery during the Christmas season, than women do, with an average difference of just over €100, according to the AIB Christmas Spend Trend.
The study also found that the busiest hour for shopping is on Christmas Eve, between noon and 1pm.
In more local observations, the manager of the Bridge Shopping Centre in Tullamore has noticed more people are waiting to get in early in the morning, and there has been a drop off in late night shopping.
