The figures, given to Aontú, also show nearly 60,000 tonnes were exported in the first two months of this year.
32,000 tonnes of peat were imported into Ireland from Europe and Canada in 2022.
Aontú leader and Meath West TD Peadar Toibín is accusing the government of 'green washing' for the benefit of their voting base, rather than their ultimate objectives.
