A Midlands MEP believes Europe is starting to understand Ireland's position when it comes to farming, and the nitrates derogation.
Fianna Fail's Barry Cowen has been playing host to EU officials, as well as reps from the Irish dairy and beef farming industries in Brussels this week.
The Offaly man is arguing for the continuation of the nitrates derogation, which allows a higher amount of nitrate excretion from cattle herds in Ireland compared to other EU states.
Reports this week from the EPA indicate nitrate levels in Irish waters are at their lowest level in eight years.
