Family Carers Ireland are still appealing for their first Allowance rise since 2009.
A midlands TD is hitting out at the government for failing to meet its commitments on family carers.
In its pre-budget submission, Family Carers Ireland is calling for a rise in the Carers Allowance payment, which hasn't increased since 2009, inclusion in the Fuel Allowance Scheme, and an increase in the number of hours a carer can work part-time outside of the home.
Sinn Féin's Brian Stanley is urging the government to adopt their recommendations and fulfill its commitment to improve conditions for carers in the Programme for Government.
The Laois-Offaly TD remarked that the Programme for Government states; "We will deliver a Carers Guarantee proposal that will provide a core basket of services to carers across the country, regardless of where they live.”
Deputy Stanley admits some progress has been made, but says there's a lot more work to be done:
