The latest HIQA report has found there were almost 1,500 beds in the region by the end of 2021.
627 of those were in Westmeath, the most in the region.
There were 491 beds in Offaly nursing homes by the end of 2021, and 339 in Laois.
The report also revealed there was an 85 percent rate of substantial compliance in nursing homes in 2020 and 2021, based on nearly 950 inspections carried out in both years.
