Uisce Éireann Welcomes EPA Report Highlighting Continued Progress On Safe Drinking Water

In 2025, Uisce Éireann invested €1.4 billion in significant improvements to water infrastructure.

Uisce Éireann is welcoming an EPA report noting continued progress in ensuring the provision of safe drinking water.

The latest Drinking Water Report from the Environmental Protection Agency confirms that Ireland’s public water supplies continue to meet very high quality standards, with compliance exceeding 99.8% for microbiological and chemical parameters.

In 2025, investment of over €1.4 billion by Uisce Éireann supported major improvements to water and wastewater treatment plants and networks, aimed at enhancing reliability and public safety throughout Ireland.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, a total of 66 Boil Water Notices were active in 2025, factoring in both ongoing and property-specific notices. In that year, Uisce Éireann issued 46 notices on public supplies, including nine linked to Storm Éowyn.

In 2025, 10 sites under Uisce Éireann’s National Disinfection Programme were completed and commissioned, improving drinking water treatment and reinforcing public health protection.

Key infrastructure works included upgrades at Clara in Clara, County Offaly, Newbliss in Newbliss, County Monaghan and Killaloe in Killaloe, County Clare, alongside ongoing investment at the Ballymore Eustace Water Treatment Plant and Leixlip Water Treatment Plant to enhance resilience and secure water supply across the Greater Dublin Area.
