Westmeath County Council is writing to the Housing Minister for urgent funding.
A Westmeath waste water treatment plant is 'stunting the development' of new houses.
That's according to Fianna Fail Councillor Alfie Devine as the capacity of the sewerage treatment plant in Collinstown has halved in the last decade.
The water supply was originally designed to allocate for 1200 people, but due to the EPA regulations introduced in 2014 it cut the capacity of the plant.
Currently there's approximately 500 households connected to it, however developers have been turned down for planning permission in the area as the plant has no further capacity.
