"Science and innovation" can provide the solutions needed to reduce the emissions profile of our food production in Ireland.

That's what Junior Agriculture Minister Martin Heydon is saying after a research project into livestock feed showed the potential to reduce methane emissions by more than a quarter.

The Meth-Abate project suggests a feed additive can reduce methane emissions by 28%.

It also shows an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from long-term storage of liquid manures and slurries using a new oxidising slurry additive.
