671 drivers have already been caught speeding so far on this National Slow Down Day, including a driver in Laois.
The 24 hour initiative by Gardaí and the Road Safety Authority began at midnight and continues until midnight tonight.
Among the vehicles detected travelling at above the speed limit this morning was 110kms per hour in a 80km/h zone on the R445 in Portlaoise and a motorist who was detected travelling at 134kms per hour in a 100km/h zone on the N4 in Mullingar, County Westmeath.
Another vehicle was caught doing 153 km/h in a 120km zone on the M7 in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, while another motorist was clocked at a speed of 141 km/h on the N67 in Co. Galway where the speed limit is 100 km/h.
