Nationally inter-authority HAP tenancies have declined.
The Simon Communities of Ireland want the Department of Housing to implement a clear communications plan around the ‘Inter-Authority Movement’.
This initiative allows Housing Assistance Payment tenants the option of securing rental accommodation outside their original local authority area.
The number of midlands inter-authority HAP tenancies over the course of 2021 to 2024, declined in Offaly from 26 to 9, in Laois the figure fell from 29 to 19 and in Westmeath it went from 27 to 26.
Nationally the number of tenancies where people accessed rented accommodation outside of their originating local authority went from over 2,600 1,700.
