Soldiers Raise Concerns With New Government Plans To Increase Defence Spending

Morale among commissioned officers is reportedly low.

The Defence Minister says increasing military spending is necessary to respond to any threats that could arise in the future.

Plans before Cabinet would see Ireland increase its defence spending from €1.1 billion to €1.5 billion by 2028, along with hiring an additional 3,000 staff.

Representatives of the Defence Forces have welcomed the move, but add it's coming from 'a low base'.
