That's one of the findings in a new report from The Adoption Authority of Ireland.
48 families in the midlands have adopted children from Vietnam in since 1998, according to a new report.
It's the second in a series of five reports by The Adoption Authority of Ireland, looking into the experiences and challenges of intercountry adoption.
Adoptions from Vietnam account for the second largest proportion into Ireland, with a total of 908 children in the last 22 years.
23 families in Laois adopted,14 in Offaly, and 11 in Westmeath.
The majority of adoptees are female, at 74 per cent, while the current average age is 14.
