Almost 10,000 Jobseekers In The Midlands

Over 2,000 of those have been receiving the allowance for over 10 years.

There are almost 10,000 job seekers in the midlands.

2,126 of those have been receiving the Jobseeker's Allowance for over six years.

Figures from the Department of Social Protection as of the end of May, show 350 people in Wesmeath have been receiving the payment for over 10 years, 271 in Offaly, and 241 in Laois.

Fianna Fáil's social protection spokesperson, Willie O'Dea, says the state hasn't put enough emphasis on the long-term unemployed:
