The Irish Drivers Want Change group says the price of fuel and VRT has been rising for years and is now out of control.
They say people in commuter towns and villages are paying thousands of euro in fuel every year, while taxi drivers and hauliers are struggling to stay in business.
Portlaoise motoring expert Bob Flavin is among those involved in the campaign - he says they're willing to bring the country to a standstill through protest if the government doesn't heed its calls:
