7,709 drivers were caught speeding in the region last year.
Over €670,000 was paid in speeding fines in the midlands last year.
If you drive over the speed limit, you get three penalty points and a fixed-charge fine of €80, which increases to €120 if you don’t pay within 28 days.
According to freedom of information figures, 4,705 drivers were caught in Laois and Offaly in 2019, while 3,004 offences were recorded in Westmeath.
The amount Gardaí collected in the region jumped by more than €150,000 on the previous year.
