Shannon Resources Limited is seeking planning permission to the reopen the Galmoy Mine along the Kilkenny border, to mine for zinc, lead and small amounts of silver.
The 442 hectare site is located seven kilometres south of Rathdowney.
The company says the mine - which opened in 1997 - was closed prematurely in 2014, and wants to recommence operations for seven to ten years.
Laois County Council is due to make a decision on the application on 6th October.
