The suggestions have been put forward by Sinn Féin.
Sinn Féin are calling on the Housing Minister to draft an intervention plan for the rental crisis.
The latest Daft.ie report shows rental prices in the midlands have risen by just over 13% in the last year with the average listed rent now €1,222.
This comes following a report by the Residential Tenancies Board which shows a 58% increase in the number of evictions in the first half of the year.
A temporary ban on evictions, rent freeze and tax reform in the private rental sectors are some of the options being suggested by the opposition party.
