Laois Councillor Caroline Dwane-Stanley is pushing for the move, after seeing what she refers to as two "plastered drunk" cyclists attempt to get on a bike in recent weeks.
She raised the issue at the county's latest Joint Policing Committee meeting.
The Sinn Féin rep has been speaking to Midlands 103's Kamron Clarke, and says they're a danger to other road users, and pedestrians.
Meanwhile, a Laois Offaly TD says it's only a matter of time before there is a death caused by an e-scooter colliding with a pedestrian.
Sinn Féin representative, Brian Stanley, says he is getting numerous complaints from people in the midlands.
He is also asking to be scooter users to be considerate of the vulnerable, such as young children and the elderly.
